Santora CPA Group announces three promotions

Santora CPA Group, a Newark-based accounting and consulting firm, announced:

Melanie Pokorny was promoted to Supervisor. Pokorny graduated from the University of Philadelphia with a Bachelor of Science in Accounting (2015) and a Master of Business Administration (2016).


Antony Apostolic, CPA, was promoted to Senior Accountant. Apostolico graduated from the University of Delaware with a Bachelor of Science in Accounting and Finance.

Riley ballard, CPA, was promoted to Senior Accountant. Ballard graduated from the University of Delaware with a BS in Accounting (2017) and an MS in Accounting (2018).

Primerica, Inc. appoints VP

Primerica, Inc. has announced the promotion of Harriet Zomie Sarblee to the regional vice-president. She is based in Newark.

GillespieHall names his partner

behaviorist Clara Mattucci was appointed partner of the strategic communication firm GillespieHall, Hockessin, a company of BGP Publicité Inc., company. Mattucci joined GillespieHall as a social media strategist in 2011. His previous role with the firm before becoming a partner was as Chief Operating Officer.

Mattucci, social science researcher and marketing strategist, leads discovery and metrics initiatives at GillespieHall. Actions and results are analyzed by internal researchers, with the results used to inform clients’ strategies for the future.

State Treasurer appointed vice-president of the association

Members of the Eastern Region of the National Association of State Treasurers (NAST) elected Treasurer of the State of Delaware Colleen Davis as the new vice-president. Davis succeeds Henry Beck, treasurer of the state of Maine who recently became regional president.

Chemours announces a member of the board of directors

The Chemours Company announced the appointment of Sandra phillips Rogers to its board of directors.

Rogers is Group Vice President, General Counsel, General Counsel and Corporate Secretary of Toyota Motor North America (TMNA). In January 2019, Rogers also assumed the role of Director of Diversity (CDO) and responsibility for the oversight of Social Innovation, Sustainability and Regulatory Affairs and the Office of Compliance and Audit.

Roger’s appointment takes effect October 1. She joins a ten-member board that is now forty percent women.

EPA appoints Scuse to committee

ChristianaCare promotions

Kelly Whitmarsh, MS, MBA, has been appointed administrator of ChristianaCare Heart and Vascular Services. In this role, Whitmarsh provides administrative leadership for the Heart Failure Program, CV Surgery Program, LVAD Program, Aortic Health Program, Joint H&V Commission Accreditation, Structural Cardiology Program and Program smoking cessation.

Whitmarsh holds an MBA and an MA in Organizational Development, Effectiveness and Change from the University of Delaware, and a BA in Psychology from Rutgers. She completed the American College of Healthcare Executives (ACHE) Executive Program in 2020.

Matthew Powell, MD, has been appointed chairman of the Department of Anesthesiology at ChristianaCare. Powell will oversee clinical operations and strategic planning for all anesthesia services, accreditation, privileges and education.

Powell completed his residency at the University of South Florida in 2005. He completed the Physician Leadership Program from the Health Management Academy in 2017 and ChristianaCare Healthcare Leadership Certification from the Alfred Lerner College of Business and Economics in 2018. .

Bayhealth adds obstetrician

Bayhealth announced the addition of an obstetrician-gynecologist Roni Dermo, MD, at Bayhealth Women’s Care, Sussex Campus. She specializes in all aspects of women’s reproductive health, including pregnancy and childbirth. D

Dermo comes to Bayhealth from WellSpan-York Hospital in York, Pennsylvania, where she completed her residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology. She holds a medical degree as well as a master’s degree in biomedical science from the Geisinger Commonwealth School of Medicine in Scranton, Pennsylvania.

Beebe Healthcare appoints Vice President

Beebe Healthcare announced that William M. Chasanov II, DO, MBA, FACP, was recently promoted to Vice President, Chief Population Health Officer.

Chasanov received his medical degree from the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine in Philadelphia. He went on to earn a master’s degree in business administration from the University of Delaware, his undergraduate alma mater. He completed his internal medicine residency at ChristianaCare Health System and his infectious disease fellowship at Cooper University Hospital.

Chasanov is doubly certified in infectious diseases and internal medicine by the American Board of Internal Medicine. In addition, he is a fellow of the American College of Physicians.

Sea Grant director appointed

Faculty member of the School of Marine Sciences and Policies Joanna york appointed administrator of Delaware Sea Grant (DESG).

As an associate professor in the School of Marine Science and Policy at the College of Earth, Ocean, and Environment at the University of Delaware, York has worked with DESG on its own Sea Grant-funded projects in the past.

Thompson Island Brewing Announces Additions

Jimmy Valm, the master brewer of the Thompson Island Brewing Company in Rehoboth Beach, announced that Charlotte’s Jump and Nicolas Theopold joined his team for a total of five brewers.

Valm will oversee production at the two breweries, which are part of Rehoboth Beach-based SoDel Concepts. The company currently has 18 business operations, including Matt’s Fish Camp, which will open on Fenwick Island this fall.

Jump, who has been on Thompson Island since opening in 2019, started out as a waiter, but the biochemistry major, a graduate of Geneva College in Beaver Falls, Pa., Said he was drawn to the brewing process.

Theopold recently graduated from UCLA with a master’s degree in organic chemistry. He became interested in brewing when he met a master brewer in California.
