Word is out, with heavy snowfall in a few days, time is running out to prepare.
“We were able to provide everyone with what they needed. We made sure everyone was over-prepared, which is a good thing,” said Brett Dagenais-Lewis, senior sales associate at Northwest Ace Hardware.
At Northwest Ace Hardware in Hollins, customers get everything from heaters and propane to ice and shovels. But the most popular item is the sled.
“The sleds are definitely number one, allowing the kids to have fun in the big snow this year,” added Dagenais-Lewis.
“Came here to buy a sled from Blacksburg as there is no sled in Blacksburg and called about 5 other stores,” said one customer.
It’s not just hardware stores that are seeing more traffic. People are also flocking to grocery stores and food is flying off the shelves.
Whenever there is winter weather in the forecast, it is inevitable that people are looking for two things: milk and bread. Before this weekend’s storm, I had to ask shoppers the tough question: Did they get milk and bread?
“I did. I came in last night and they had no bread, so I was having lunch today and I was like, ‘Let me check,'” one customer said.
“I have bread, not milk, but I have no dairy, so here you go,” another joked.
Some customers only bought the essentials.
“I have beer and salsa.”
Whether it’s salsa, sleds or sandwiches, it’s time to refuel.
