SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA COUNTY (WBRE / WYOU) – Small businesses in our area have been criticized by last minute Christmas shoppers.

Shoppers purchased gift bags at the Pink Pedal store on Thursday in downtown Scranton. The commotion of shoppers inside the Wyoming Avenue store is a joyous sight for co-owner Kara Schermerhorn.

“It’s just very, very busy, thank goodness. As you can see, we still have a fully stocked warehouse, the boxes are still arriving, which is a good thing for us. We have had more deliveries, we have people, we have family members, we have friends delivering packages for us, ”said Schermerhorn.

The phone rang off the hook at The Daisy Collective on Penn Avenue as customers called for last-minute giveaways. Owner Maggie Zayac worked tirelessly to get deliveries to the door and under the tree on time.

“It was awesome. It’s been a really busy season, certainly one of our best in the eight and a half years that we’ve been open. A little different this year, I would say this season has lasted longer. I think people were nervous at first so they’ve been shopping since before Halloween so it’s been a good steady flow for about two months now, ”Zayac said.

A few traffic lights down the road at Over the Moon, the associates were busy preparing neatly wrapped gifts for pickup. The store on North Washington Avenue has something for everyone.

“We have been very busy. We are very grateful to our local customers who buy local and are very patient with us. We are really in our wrapper with our bows and everyone loves it so we are so grateful to the local community that we have supporting us, ”said Catherine Farrell, Sales Associate.

The Pink Pedal, The Daisy Collective and Over the Moon are open on Christmas Eve.

La Pédale Rose is open from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. The Daisy collective is open from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Over the Moon open is open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
