I
mpact Adhesives Cyanoacrylates are single component moisture curing adhesives which cure
rapidly to form tough, durable, high performance bonds. Cyanoacrylates arc chosen for their
versatility and ability to bond a wide variety of substrates including; metals, woods,
ceramics, rubbers, plastics and textiles to name a few. The rapid bonding of parts ensures
efficient production levels and accurate control of costs. We boast a range of cyanoacrylate
adhesives few manufacturers can equal. The total range consists of over 300 different grades.
At Impact Adhesives we segment our cyanoacrylates into three main categories identified
by chemical type. These are Methyl, Ethyl and Specials (which includes Propyl, Butyl,
Methoxyethyl and Allylester based cyanoacrylates). Within these three categories are adhesives
to cover most industrial applications.
We understand, however, there are some applications for which the detailed grades will not
be suitable. That is why we offer the number of grades we do. In such circumstances we recommend
you contact our Technical Department who will be pleased to advise on the best adhesive to meet
your application requirements.
METHYL CYANOACYLATES
Methyl cyanoacrylates are short molecular chained adhesives making them particularly
suitable for metal to metal bonding and in some circumstances metal to rubber bonding.
There are two main grades capable of satisfying most applications but other grades are
available if required. In general, methyl cyanoacrylates exhibit excellent bonds between -300C
to +100C. Higher temperature resistant grades are available.
is a low/medium viscosity product with good adhesion levels on most metals. The cure
speed and general properties of the adhesive make it the most universal methyl cyanoacrylate
within our range. Its easy flow properties mean it can be used straight from the bottle
without the need for specialist application equipment whilst still maintaining your fast
levels of production.
is our higher viscosity adhesive for application to more uneven surfaces yet retaining
fast cure speeds. The viscosity allows for bridging tolerances of up to 0.2mm. The chemical
make up of the adhesive provides good resistance to temperature, vibration and impact.
ETHYL CYANOACRYLATES
Ethyl cyanoacrylates are the main type of instant adhesives used within industry.
Impact Adhesives 600 Series can be used to form bonds on plastics, elastomers, metals
and many other materials, both to themselves and to each other. The inherent inner
elasticity of our ethyl grades ensures excellent durability and ageing characteristics,
with an allowance for differential rates of expansion between dissimilar materials.
Temperature resistance ranges between -300C and + 100C dependant on the grade and substrates
being bonded.
is our very low viscosity adhesive (2mPas) exhibiting extremely quick cure speeds.
It can be used for mating close fitting parts and for wicking into pre-assembled components.
The rapid bonding characteristics of 601 enable high levels of production to be obtained
cleanly and effectively.
ethyl cyanoacrylate has been designed specifically for bonding rubbers (elastomers)
and plastics as well as being a good general purpose low viscosity adhesive. When used in
conjunction with Impact Adhesive 841 Polyolefin Primer, difficult to bond substrates such
as polypropylene, polyethylene and other polyolefin plastics can be successfully joined.
(Please consult Technical Information Sheets 609 and 841 for full details).
low/medium viscosity fast curing adhesive is used primarily for bonding plastics
and general materials. 613 is a compromise between 609 and 617 and is often used as an
alternative to either of these grades where viscosity
is critical.
is our standard high performance general purpose adhesive with a fast cure speed
across a variety of materials. The medium viscosity of the adhesive means it is easily
applied and can be used in most situations without the risk of over application leading
to unsightly joints. 617 will bond wood, cork, foam, leather, paper, plastics, ceramics,
metals and most other industrial and domestic materials.
medium viscosity adhesive offers excellent bonds whilst providing some gap filling
capacity. The viscosity of 5OOmPas means that the adhesive can be applied to porous substrates
with little risk of absorption which could lead to a reduction in bond strength.
is a medium/high viscosity adhesive ideal for bonding porous substrates such as wood
where good gap filling is required and speed of cure is still important. When used in
conjunction with an activator e.g. 831, 833 the adhesive can be made to bond porous
substrates instantly whilst retaining incredible tensile shear strengths.
exhibits very high viscosity (20,000 mPas) allowing it to be applied to vertical
surfaces with reduced risk of dripping. 637 will bond most materials including very porous
substrates and, although it is very thick, it is still possible to apply it directly from
the bottle.
Gel is a thixotropic adhesive supplied in a tube for ease of application. The cure
speed of the adhesive is slower than normal and allows for some repositioning of components.
Speed of cure can be increased by using an Impact Adhesive Activator
is a high performance adhesive. It is rubber toughened and has been specially
formulated to withstand high temperatures, (120C constant and up to 160C intermittent
dependant on substrates). The high viscosity (3200 mPas) means gaps of up to 0.4mm can
be bridged effectively. The rubber content in the adhesive allows for greater joint
flexibility and allows for differential expansion of the bonded materials.
SPECIAL CYANOACRYLATES
Impact Adhesives 700 Series includes Propyl, Butyl, Methoxyethyl and Allylester.
Modified ethyls and methyls are also included. Each chemical type offers different
levels of performance, characteristics, advantages and benefits over one another,
justifying inclusion in the range. Only by including all permutations can we provide
you, the customer, with the level of service and performance you expect.
Tamper proof cyanoacrylate is a modified ethyl adhesive designed for temporary
locking of components. Its blue colour means that any tampering of screws etc. can be
easily identified. The low strength ensures that the component can be disassembled if
required.
Butyl cyanoacrylate is a long molecular chain adhesive suitable for bonding sensitive
plastics such as polystyrenes, polymethacylates and polycarbonates, which are prone to stress
crazing. Impact Adhesives Butyl Cyanoacrylates exhibit extremely low exotherms and under the
correct circumstances can be used in medical applications. USP approved grades are available
on request and customers must contact our Technical Department before using such products for
medical applications.
Low odour/low bloom grade adhesive is a methoxyethyl based product with a neutral and
virtually unnoticeable odour. Because of the products' high molecular weight and resulting
low odour, it is very user friendly and irritation of mucus membranes is almost excluded.
716 is also low bloom with no white lining apparent on cosmetically critical areas.
Low odour/low bloom is our higher viscosity version of 716 allowing the user better
gap filling capability and slower curing, whilst remaining user friendly.
High temperature cyanoacrylate is an allylester based adhesive providing remarkable
temperature resistance. Designed for bonding metals in the electronics industry, yet with
many other potential applications where temporary temperature loadings of +200C are present,
799 can be used for applications previously unsuitable for cyanoacrylate adhesives.
ACTIVATORS
At Impact Adhesives we offer a range of products to supplement our cyanoacrylate and
anaerobic adhesives enabling our customers to use the adhesive more efficiently.
Activators (or Accelerators) are solvent borne liquid products which enable both
cyanoacrylate and anaerobic adhesives to cure more rapidly than normal. Unlike many
adhesive manufacturers, we are able to offer a range of activators ideally suited to
customer requirements.
Anaerobic activator promotes the speed of cure of our anaerobic products. 801 also
promotes difficult to bond substrates including non-ferrous metals and some plastics.
Using 801 or 803 (non aerosol version) at temperatures below 15C will aid the speed of cure.
Activator for cyanoacrylates is based on heptanes and acts quickly and effectively
on most industrial materials. 831 is available in a variety of pack sizes to cover most
eventualities.
Activator for cyanoacrylates is an IPA based activator particularly suitable for
creating bonds on plastics and sensitive surfaces.
Super fast accelerator is used where speed is of the essence and the highest
levels of production are required.
PRIMERS AND CLEANERS
Super pre-clean is a heavy duty cleaner and degreaser for use on most materials to
be bonded with cyanoacrylates or anaerobics.
Polyolefin primer promotes adhesion with our cyanoacrylates on low surface
energy plastics such as polypropylene, PTFE, polythene and some silicone based materials.
ANCILLARIES
De-bonder for emergency de-bonding of skin.
Barrier cream forms a barrier between the user and the adhesive, protecting the skin
against bonding.
At Impact Adhesives, we offer a wide range of metal tipped and polythene plastic dosing
tips for accurate dispensing of our cyanoacrylate adhesives, please ask our Technical
Department to recommend the most suitable dosing tip.
